little boats. They get an elder with which they make the hull of the boat. They get some feathers with which to make the sails. They also get a little piece of wood and make it into the shape of a funnel and stick it into the whole in the elder. They get a piece of slate and fasten it to the bottom of the boat to keep it from turning over. Sometimes boys have a race with these boats. A number of boys gather round a pond. When they count three they all let go their little boats and watch to see which will win. Sometimes larger boats are made with wood.
