All the boys get round in a ring and the oldest boy gives out the tig which means he gives out a rhyme tapping each boy in turn and when he comes to the last word of the rhyme whatever boy that falls on is out. He keeps on at this until he comes to the last boy. This is the boy that has to follow the other boys. Whatever boy he catches first has the tig. The tig means this that it is his duty to follow the other boys.
These are a few of the rhymes that we give out when we are playing tig
    P-i-g pig,
    You have the tig,
    S-o-w sow,
    You have it now.
    Ena mena mina moe
Catch the [...] by the toe
If he squeels let him go.
