- (continued from previous page)It is better to live in Hope's than die in Mc Loughlin's. The story connected with this last proverb is. Mc Loughlins and Hopes were two very large farmers and kept a certain number of men each. Hope's men were boarded in the best way but got very small wages. Mc Loughlin's men got no boards but got better wages and so when there would be extra men wanted the said "Better live in Hope's than die in Mc Loughlin's.
