- (continued from previous page)Thatching
Pat Smyth, Crowenstown, Delvin thatches his house in this way.
He gets a supply of good straw, and shakes it up well. He takes a small sheaf of straw up to the house by means of a ladder. He takes a handful of straw sticks a thatching fork in one end of it, and drives it into the old thatch that is there already. Then he rakes it down with a little hand-rake, so that all the straws lie smooth in the one direction. When the whole house is thatched, all the straws that are hanging down at the eaves are cut off neatly, and then the thatching is complete. - You are not logged in, but you are welcome to contribute a transcription anonymously.
