To see whether a person was really suffering from this disease, oaten meal was put in a cup, and covered with a cloth. If the meal sank down in the cup the person was suffering from the disease. Some prayers were said over him (or her) then.
The meal had to be baked on a griddle, and given to the patient to eat, and whatever he could not eat had to be given to a dog or burned. - [-](continues on next page)
