   front of the chimney was made of clay and wattles. The old people never heard of houses having no chimney or having the fire in the centre of the floor.
   There are no accounts of houses which had no glass in the windows.
   The old floors were made of clay.
   Half doors are not common now, but they were very common formerly.
   Turf and wood were used for fire.
   Rushlights were employed for giving light at night. Rushcandles were made locally. Some people have the "grisset" or bowl used for holding the grease.

   The houses in the olden times were thatched. Some of them had roofs of rushes. The thatch was procured from straw or rushes. The old houses had a settle bed in the kitchen. It was placed against the back wall of the house. The fire was
