  1. The local fairs are held in Kilbeggan, Tullamore, and Mullingar.
    The fairs are held in the streets in Tullamore and Kilbeggan, and are held in a green in Mullingar.
    Buyers transacted business long ago at farm houses and at crossroads and they still do it now. Fairs are not held in country places now. Toll is paid on cattle sold. The money is given to the man you buy the cattle from. Money is given to the man when the animal is sold. It is called luck money.
    Two shillings are given on cattle, sixpence on a sheep, five shillings on a horse and sixpence on a pig.
