- (continued from previous page)the wheelers. They fill the bog barrow and when one barrow is full the wheeler brings it out to a dry place and scatters it. By the time he is back again the other barrow is full.
When all the turf is cut and scattered on the bank it is left there to dry and after three or four days it is turned and "footed." The footing is done by getting four sods and putting them standing on end against each other with a sod on top. If the weather is fine it is clamped after a few days but in wet weather it is sometimes a week or a forthnight before it is clamped. He often has to scatter it and foot it again. About sixty sods make a clamp. When the turf is clamped it is safe and it is left in the bog until the farmer has time to bring it home.When the is being cut the owner does not pay the men who help him but he in turn gives(continues on next page)- Informant
