- (continued from previous page)wore anything else.Many women of the district always knit socks and stockings for their families. In former times the thread was spun locally from the wool of the sheep but the spinning wheels are never used at all now. There are only two spinning wheels in the district and they are thrown up on the loft. All the wool for knitting is bought in the shop.There are no special types of clothes worn on any particular occasion in this district but people usually wear mourning at the funeral of a relative and for about six months after the death.
