- In Tullaghan Mullingar the ruins of an old chapel can be seen. This was a private chapel which belonged to a family named Nugent who were prominient people in the Penal times. They were very good Catholics. They kept a priest which they supported.
One time the English soldiers wanted to put their horses into the chapel. The Nugents sternly refused and one of them said he would be a dead man ere a horse would enter the chapel.
This meant that he would fight a duel with any wanting to put his horse into the chapel. The challenge was not(continues on next page)- Collector
