Boot consisted in giving money along with a beast in exchange for another one. Markets were held at Fagans gate one mile south from Ballymahon,at present no markets are held there. In olden times hucksters were very common. Pedlars were and are very common plentyfull in this district. A large number generally jews bought rags and feathers in this district. They come still in smaller numbers. The different coins are called a quid for one pound,a bob for a shilling,6d called a tanner,3d called a kids eye. A lena bann a very old copper coin. Some of the coins that are gone out of use a guinea piece,a sovereign,a tenpenny bit,a fourpenny piece,a crown,a fourshilling piece. None of these are circulating now.
