- (continued from previous page)every home and the people spun the sheeps wool into yarn and tied it up in skeins to be dyed any colour they desired for socks etc. Noone in this district made churns but there was a man living outside Ballymahon named Murtagh who used make them. Carpinters made wheels. Blacksmiths made nails. There was no pottery work carried on in this district. An old jar in our house which must be over sixty years made,bears the name of a Glascow manufacter.
Thomas Dowdall of Ballymahon had a tan-yard outside the town. He used buy skins and a man by the name of Mr.Dunne who was called the currier would take off the hair. Then it would be tanned and he used to sell it in the town.- Collector
