- There is an old Cave in Abbeyshrule graveyard which leads from the ruins of the Monk's Monastery in [to?] Abbeyshrule graveyard. There are several openings to it. It leads right under the road and under the fields. It then goes on straight under the canal. It is said to be five miles long. It was used as a safety place for the monks during Penal Times. The monks used escape under this underground passage. It was called "The monks underground passage."
