- On the eight of September eighteen hundred and ninety eight, just one hundred years after the battle of Ballinamuck, a monster meeting was held on the Battlefield to honour the Irish heroes who fell on that occasion. A Miss Byrne a native of Cornakelly, on the eve of her departure for America composed the following song about the meeting.I
