  1. When Cromwell had conquered the town of Wexford and slaughtered the people there he turned his attention
    to Lady's Island, a village which is situated some miles outside Wexford.
    The inhabitants hearing of his coming and knowing his murderous nature abandoned the place immediately. But one little boy in his hurried flight thought of the beautiful Crucifix which hung on the altar of the little chapel and which was cherished by the people. He knew that if Cromwell's soldiers saw
