    dance wih the "straw boys" ("Black men" they call them here) there is a curse laid on them. They are generally dressed in different costumes. Some dress as girls others as old men. They blacken their faces or wear masks. In the country parts surrounding Bunclody the father or mother of the girl makes the match.

  2. 2. Marriages most frequently take place before Lent and Advent. A wet day is thought unlucky for marriages. The old proverb says :-
    "Happy is the bride that the sun shines on
    Happy is the corpse that the rain falls on"
    May is thought an unlucky month to get married in. Another old proverb is :-
    "Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday is the best day of all
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for crosses
    Saturday for no luck at all"
