- Another ruined castle in the vicinity of Portarlington is Morette,also built by the Fitzgeralds about two hundred yards from the castle are the ruins of an old church, and almost halfway between the church and the castle, is a beautiful spring well,known as St, Bridgids well. It is a tradition among the people of the locality that St, Bridgid rested at this spot on one of her many journeys, and they point out a stone, hollowed in the centre, where she is supposed to have left the impression of her knees as she prayed.
