  1. There is a story told about this wood in connection with the battle of Clontarf. Mailmora, King of Leinster wishing to present King Brian Boru with some masts for a shipping had then cut in the wood of Clonsast owned by the O'Dempsey's at that time. Between the O'Dempseys and the O'Byrnes who had the honour of carrying the masts. A dispute arose as to who should go first.
    Mailmora decided in favour of the O'Byrnes and then they arrived at Kincora
