- The local cure for whooping cough was to put a frog in a bottle and when the frog would die the whooping cough would go. This was told to me by Mrs. Craven who got it from Mrs. Bermingham [This name is locally pronounced "Brumagen"] in Horseleap.
She also told her if you met a woman who got married but never changed her name and she gave you a piece of cake she baked herself for you to eat and then whooping cough woud go away.
Mrs. Thompson got this from Mrs. Craven who got it from Mrs. Bermingham.
Another cure for whooping-cough is to get a person to feed an ass with bread and the person with the cough to crawl in between the ass's legs and any crumbs that would fall should be eaten by that person.
This was told to me by Peter Digan [pronounced Dy-gan].(continues on next page)- Collector
