If a horse is sold the halter must be given away with it. If you have a good bridle on you may keep it and buy a halter for the new owner. There are men going around selling halters for 6d at all big horse fairs.
The biggest fairs of the year are the January fair in Athlone for horses, principally year and a halfs, the September fair for (called Harvest fair) for ewes and lambs, the June fair in cufoate for lambs; January fair in Banagher for horses: All the pigs around here are sold in Ferbane. - Long ago the people only ate two meals a day - one before going to work in the morning and the other after(continues on next page)
