Brian Kelly (R.I.P.) was a good thatcher. His thatching, with straw, lasted from ten to twelve years. He made his own "stinging-stick" and rake. He got a flat piece of stick and put seven nails through it and a handle, to make the rake.
Jack Redding, (R.I.P.) nick-named "Jack Straw" or "Trawneen", was another thatcher. His thatching on a cow-house lasted twenty-one years. He used to "scollop" it down.
