  1. In former times people of this district rarely had to leave the lcoality to get any work done. If a member of the family could not do it there was sure to be some one in the locality who peformed the work or who did it after "quitting time of an evening" to oblige a neighbour. Most people however could make creels potato-baskets and chairs out of willow or sally rods. They also made chairs and mats from twisted ropes. They sometimes made very ornamental door-mats from green-rushes and yellow straw. These looked nice when freshly made and they were put inside the door in the Winter "to
