- We have a spell of frost from the 5th December to the present time. It was impossible to travel owing to the frost. Motor cars could not travel. The last big fall of snow we had was in the year 1933 on Friday the 24th of February
We had a very severe frost in the year 1879, the longest one ever we had. It lasted from the 27th November to the 17th of January. Everything was frost bound. The people dragged timber across lake Sheelin with horses.When it began to thaw the Ice began to crack and the explosions of it could be heard ten miles away, from the way the water shrunk under itA small band of young men crossed Lake Sheelin to Ross Castle with a big drum and only for one man that had sense, he made them stop the(continues on next page)- Collector
