A man named Mackey, a poor fisherman who lied near Kells used to walk to three markets towns the one day. He challenged an army officer to jump on one occasion. The jump was across a lane taking the ditch on both sides. The length all told would be a perch. Mackey jumped clean but the officer cut the heels of himself against the ditch.
