The champion match was the whole watch
On March the eighteenth day
On Mortimer's ground in Longfield town they held a gallant play
From far and near their course did steer
although the day was shrill, and thin.
All eagerly drove off to see these Independent men

Soon came the Mac-Finns with their tawny skins
Without either laugh or song
Like a ship-wrecked crew with their jerseys blue
They marched slovenly along, you couldn't describe this strange lean tribe
From mountain rock and glen
Who made an effort great for to defeat these Independent men.

At half-past two there came in view,
This team beyond compare.
Both young and old ne'er be controlled their cheers did rend the air.
