A swine herd who had gone out into the woods, had left his eldest son to look after the cottage. This boy was fond of playing with fire, so while his father was away, he let some sparks escape into a bundle of straw.
It quickly kindled, and the cottage was all in flames Together with the cottage a number of pigs perished. Pigs were very valuable in China, and the boy was very much upset owing to what happened.
