Charming young Bessie of Valentine's Brae,
'Twas the Lord of the Moorlands who led her astray.

One night s the young Lord of the Moorlands lay down to sleep,
Young Bessie came to him, and for him did weep,
Saying you are the young Lord that led me astray,
Far away from my friends and Valentine's Brae.
III
He awoke from his slumber like a man in surprise,
It's the voice of my Bessie he bitterly cries,
And if she be dead, then the truth I declare,
I'll die by her right side on sweet Valentine's Brae

He called for his servants to saddle his steed,
Oe'r hills and high mountains he rode with great speed,
He arrived at her cottage in the noontime of day.
At the place of young Bessie on Valentine's Brae.

Bessie's own father stood at his own gate,
Like a man quite forlorn bewailing in pain.
The young Lord advances to afford him relief,
