James and Patrick Masterson as you shall hear,
Near Balanagh was rear most tenderly,
They left their parents on a woeful day,
To seek their fortunes in America.
III
In fifty eight then they sailed away
Bound for New Orleans in America,
But mark what followed without delay,
For the war broke out on a woeful day.
IV
To desert their regiments they were inclined,
For to reach the North they made up their minds,
By night to travel, and to make they way,
And in the woods they lay concealed by day.
V
For three long days they could not be found,
Till at length the sergeant did the wood surround.
They were taken prisoner, and handcuffed bound
