    There was once a farmer named Martin Clancy who was very poor and discontented.

    (continued from previous page)
    So it was the next year and the next sometimes more sometimes less according to the season
    The trees were old they needed a change, by digging round their roots letting in the air to them and turning in subs[?] soil up to the frost and the sun, the farmer had gave such new life to the trees.
    In this way Martin Clancy learned that tillage is the best means to get treasure from the earth. Men are ungrateful at times but the soil is never ungrateful.
