- The farmers long ago prepared the ground for the potatoe crop, the same as the farmers nowadays. There were two ways for preparing the ground. They used to put on manure before the land was ploughed, and after the land was ploughed. The potatoe can be sown in ridges or in drills. Mostly the plough is used for preparing the ground nowadays, but in olden times loys were used. Some of the people used wooden ploughs long ago.
The potatoes are split for planting and the spades are generally made locally. Local people help one another in sowing the potatoes.(continues on next page)- Collector
