    the hawthorn tree,
    listening to his merry chat of innocence and glee.
    But now alas these flattering words
    Have almost proved my ruin.
    Which leaves me a forlorn maid, on
    the hills of Magheracloone.
    Many a lonely night I sat behind the
    window blind.
    I think I'd hear his footsteps come, but alas it was the wind.
    Or the rustling of the falling leaves,
    upon your pavement strewn.
    Reminds me of when he would come, to see the maid of Magheracloone.
    I blame him not, the fault is my own,
    I really must confess.
    I heeded not his loving words up his
