  1. About fifty years ago a lady from Mayo named Judy St. Laurance, a fine type of an Irish woman told this story of her Grand-Father. He was coming from the market one day with four 'cwts' of oats on an ass's back. Somehow the bag fell off. Now there were two lads on the road with him and they went to help him to put it back when what should come along but a man on a bike. The two lads saw him coming and they both let a screech dropped the bag and took to the fields. One of those lads often told the story how Judy's old Grandfather put the four 'cwts' back on the ass's back by himself and the fright they got when they saw the bike approaching it was the first one they had ever seen.
