    shoes, (made) (l) and he refused to mend any shoes but those made by the local shoe makers. His family still carry on the same trade. Long ago when people were going to town they did not put on their shoes until they got near the town, and they took them off at the same place when they were coming home, they did this because they felt more comfortable without them. People also wore clogs. The soles of these were made of wood with a piece of iron.
