This is done so that the people of the house will have a good supply of butter. Churning takes about three quarters of an hour. It is done by hand. The churn dash is always moving upwards and downwards till the churning is made.
When the butter comes on top of the churn it is the sign that the churning is made.
The buttermilk is used for making bread.
