    The teachers used to teach english, writing, arithmetic, and catechism.
    The children used to write on slates, and with quills. There were no blackboards used in the Hedge schools.
    There were no professional teachers in the hedge schools. If there chanced to be a good scholar in a family they could start a school of their own.
    The classes in the hedge schools, were much the same as the classes now.
