  1. In the year 1851 a man named Joseph Guilfoyle lived in a small thatched house about a mile and a half outside the village of Kells on the main road to Callan. Mr Guilfoyle spent all the Winter months collecting switches. When it came to Spring he slit the switches and placed them in the sun to dry.
