    In years gone by marriages took place in houses but not since 1898.
    The usual custom on a wedding day is to throw an old shoe or a handful of rice after the wedding party for good luck. It was the custom for "straw boys to come to the house of a wedding and to sing, dance and make merry but not to be drunk.
