    their requirements to the smith so situated.
    The forge is a fairly large-sized room on the ground floor, and has an elevated platform of stonework, about three feet high on which is placed the bellows for blowing the fire into a glowing heat. In olden times the village smithy was roofed with scraws but nowadays it is roofed with slates or corrugate iron. The door in many cases is formed in the shape of a horse-shoe.
