The fortnight before Ash Wednesday is the general time for marriages. The month of May is a very unlucky month to get married. Tuesdays and Thursdays are also unlucky days on which to get married.
The bride's people invite all their friends to the marriage at the chapel and when it is over they all drive in cars to the bride's new home.That is what is called a "drag". They have a great night drinking, singing and dancing until morning. Matches are often made by the parents of the young couple. In older times there was no match making. Often a young man would steal a girl out of a window at night, but in these days they will not take a girl unless she has the weight of herself in money.
