- There are a lot of wild birds in this district. The chief ones are the kingfisher, wren, robin, crane, raven, blackbird, swallow, and thrush. They usually build their nests in April.
In the olden times it was a sign of war if you saw a raven coming down from the mountains. The robin makes its nest on the sunny side of a bank to protect it from the north wind. The swift usually (bring) builds its nest in the eaves of a house or school.
The thrush usually builds its nest in a hedge and lines its nest with clay, and lays about four or five eggs which are blue with black spots. Oil can be produced from a crane which is very valuable for machinery. It builds its nest in a bush near the water, and makes two holes for for its feet.
The birds usually migrate at the end of September. It is a sign of the rain continuing if you see birds singing in it. If a Robin comes close to the door of a house it is a sign of stormy weather.- Bailitheoir
