Saint John's Day is on the 24th of June. On the eve of the feast day people in the country places light bonfires. They generally burn straw or rushes. People gather around it, and the owner of this bonfire brings a burned stick with him and leaves it in the corn field or in the potatoe field.
On May eve people gather May flowers to scatter them around the house.
Hollowe'en night is on the eve of the first of November. On the night the young people go around from house to house dressed as Murass accompanied by music. In this district they are known as Cuthaleens.
In every house hold there is blood drawn in honour of Saint Martin. This is done by killing a fowl.
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. In olden times people used make a great number(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
