- The Leipreachan or as he was commonly called the Pooka was a fairy who was suppoed to hold a very high rank in their company He it was who was entrusted (who) with the safe guarding of their treasures and so well did he mind his job that no mortal ever was able to get possession of their gold. He was supposed to live in a very secluded place principally at the foot of a hawthorn bush that grew in a lonely place.
If a man caught one of those Leipreachans he had keep his eye on him all the time or if he lifted his eyes off him all the time or if he lifted his eyes off him he would immediately vanish. A man once caught one and demanted him to show him the pot of gold. The Leipreachan agreed and they both set off down the field. All at once the Leipreachan shouted "beware of that dog or he will bite." The man looked behind him excitedly and of course when he turned round again the Leipreachan had vanished with a mocking laugh.
