  1. I am living in the townland of Mountcoal in the parish of Lixnaw and in the barony of Clanmaurice.
There are twenty six families living in it and it has a population of one hundred and twenty seven.
Buckley is the most common name in the townland.
There are nineteen slated dwellings and six thatched.
The townland got its name from coal which was found there long ago. The coal mine is there still.
About a century ago Mountcoal was very thickly populated and about ninety years ago the landlord evicted eighty families and took over their land to himself. That was a very sorrowful day in Mountcoal as my Grandmother told me. Their cries were heard miles away when they were ordered out of their little homes. But thank God the day has come when their descendants are settled down in the lands again and their landlord has gone.
