- The people of olden time had remedies for every complaint in man and beast. They believed too, that magic spells could cure diseases.
The following are a few of the old remedies:-
If a person had a pain in his ear, he used to roast an onion in the fire, place it under his head and go to sleep.
If a cow had pock on her teats, the people used to mix goats marbles and butter and rub it on them.
When a person would cut his finger, he could get a cob, wet and stick it on it.
If a child had whooping cough, he was given boiled milk to drink in which was three hairs out of a child's head, who never saw its father.
For a bad pain, the people used to take three worms, which had been roasted on a pot-lid, until they were in dust, mixed in milk and water.
If a person had kidney trouble, he used to get a porringer of purple daisies, boil them and drink their soup.
