- A churn is a vessel for making butter. It is two feet and a half in height and a foot and a half wide on the bottom and two feet wide on the top and is shaped on the top like a jar also. There is a lid on it, a churn-dash, a staff and a churn-cup. The lid is the cover, the churn dash is for making the butter and the staff is for churning up and down and the churn-cup is to keep the cream from spilling. There are two iron hoops on the bottom and one in the body of it and another on the top to keep the body and the hood together. The hoop in the middle is about an inch apart from the bottom one and the same from the top one. The churn is made for home use weekly and is made every second day for to sell it.
