- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)sent children to school paid the teachers to instruct them.
The subjects taught in these schools were reading, recitation, arithmetic, some geography and history. Irish was spoken by master and pupil but was not used in teaching other subjects. They were taught in English.
The books used were geograpies, histories and reading books. Writing was done in school on slates with a slate pencil. Children were seated on a large seat which was in the middle of a school-room. There was a blackboard there also. The teachers remained in this district after they had finished teaching because they belonged to it.- Faisnéiseoir
