- The landlord was a name feared by the peasants years ago in Ireland. Little wonder they hated and dreaded him! He made the people pay their rents no matter where or how they could get the money. The poor creatures worked to pay the landlord. Their hearts were stuck in the little homestead, often consisting of a small thatched cabin, and they tried to cling there as long as they could.
They could never improve their dwellings. If any alteration was made, the rent was raised and then if the poor peasant was unable to pay he was evicted.
