- The greatest storm that ever raged in Ireland, was the storm of 1839. It began on the 6th January and lasted for two days. It caused great damage to crops and houses. Many families were left homeless and the stacks of oats and hay were known to be carried three miles away. Trees were uprooted in several places. In after years it was usual for people who had no record of their age to say that they were born in the year of the great wind.
About the year 1890 there was a great snowfall which remained three days. Many parts were covered with ten feet of snow, and many lives and animals were lost.
Some years after that, there was a great rain-fall . Bogs and low fields were covered over, but the people did not suffer much loss by it.
About thirty-eight years ago there was another storm which was not so intense as the storm of 1839. It started in the beginning of March. It came unexpectedly and therefore there were many fishing-(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
