Ar an leathanach seo
- Basket-making. In this district the people long ago made baskets of willow-rods and goden-osiers. The rods were boiled in water and the skin taken off. Some of them were dyed and others not and that is how they made the baskets of different colours.
Candle-making. They made candles of rushes. First of all they pulled long rushes and dried them and then peeled the skin except a small bit to support the rush. They then stuck them in grease. After some time they got a sod of turf and put a hole in it. A stick was put in and then split. Now the candle was put down in the stick which served as a candle-stick. These were calld rush candles.
Resin-candles. A lump of resin was put into a "grisset" and put on the fire to melt. A strip of calico was pulled through the liquid and then taken up and rolled on a board to make it round. Then the candle was made. The grisset is shaped like a boat with a long handle in the centre of it and three little legs on which it stands.
Dyeing. Long ago the people used to dye their flannel dresses yellow with the herb they(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
