- May day
1. holy water was sprinkled on cattle, crops and out-houses.
2. Every farmers had a suspicion that the cows may milked by unknown "bad women" and all the stall doors were locked and if the cattle happened to be out, they were kept in that night.
3. No one would give milk nor make butter on May Day.
4. The women washed their faces in the dew on that morning to preserve their beauty. the farmer's wife went out to gather the dew, not from her own land but from a neighbour's land, and some of it was placed on the butter. Another custom was to get "uisce na dtrí dteorann" - water found where three boundaries of farms meet.
